Profile

Alexander College is a private post-secondary institution serving approximately 2,000 students each year. Established in 2006 under the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education, Alexander College consists of two urban campuses located in Burnaby and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Alexander College is recognized and accredited by the BC Ministry of Advanced Education, Degree Quality Assurance Board (DQAB), BC Education Quality Assurance (EQA) program, and is a proud participant in the BC Transfer System, organized by the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT).

The academic year is divided into four terms: Fall (Sept-Dec), Winter (Jan-Apr), Spring (May-July) and Summer intensive (July-Aug).

Areas of Expertise

Alexander College offers a variety of undergraduate degree and transfer programs [see Programs] including University Transfer, Associate of Arts degrees and an Associate of Science degree. An integrated English for Academic Purposes program is also available to assist non-native English speakers with their transition to university level studies in the English language.

Off Campus Housing

Every student needs housing. Due to the urban locations of our campuses, Alexander College is unable to provide on-campus housing at this time. With this in mind, our campus locations are situated in close proximity to major transit stations, minimizing commute time for our students. The majority of students choose one of three housing types: homestay, room rental, or apartment rental. Canadian homestay placements are ideal for those students wanting a truly Canadian experience. Host families provide security, protection, and care for their homestay students, making them feel a part of the family, and integrating them into Canadian culture. For students who are under 19 years old, it is required by law in British Columbia that they stay in a homestay with a family and have a local, legal guardian. Homestay companies provide guardianship services for international students if required. Students over 19 years old may also choose to stay with a homestay family if they so desire.

Incoming Students

Student Orientation is a full-day session rich with activities and information designed to welcome new students to Alexander College. The schedule is packed with opportunities to meet great people, get acquainted with the campus and community, as well as learn about the many support services and programs available.

New Student Orientation dates are posted at both campuses and online in the News and Events Calendar.

Career Planning

A well-organized student is a successful student. Students completing university transfer or degree programs are assisted to create a study plan to ensure that they are on track to meet program and graduation requirements.

Ideally, students will seek advising either directly through an Academic Advisor or through other departments at key stages of their academic career at Alexander College such as Entrance into the College as either a first-year student or as a transfer student from another institution and when the student would like to declare their major or academic goal.
